Cooking recipes

Cooking is a multi-step process in Staxel that allows the player to make dishes that they can consume, gift to villagers, or sell to merchants for Petals. It is always more profitable to cook grown crops to sell than to sell the raw produce.

Cooking is a process that involves three core parts: recipes, ingredients, and preparation. Every player starts with a few core recipes. To learn more recipes, talk with the villagers to complete tasks, participate in events, or buy recipes from a shop. Once a recipe note is held in hand, left-clicking will memorize the new recipe.

Next, collect the ingredients; ingredients may be grown, bought or found. The player can open the menu and select the frying pan icon to access known recipes. There are several categories of recipes: Starters, Main Courses, and Desserts. Select the type of food, then select the desired recipe from the list. The ingredients list will show what and how much of each ingredient is needed. At this time, a fridge doesn't store extra food (without modding), so a Book Shelf can be used as a pantry to store the ingredients to your favorite recipes. Don't worry, the Milk doesn't expire sitting out on the shelf.

To cook the ingredients, one must follow the steps listed in the recipe's Process List. Recipes often require the use of more than one station. Like crafting stations for building supplies, each cooking station processes ingredients by interacting with the station on its left side, while finished products come out on the right side.

• Boiling Station: used for boiling food and liquids.
• Chopping Station: used for chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients.
• Combining Station: a processing station for combining ingredients.
• Frying Station: this station is for frying anything the recipe calls for.
• Mixing Station: used for mixing ingredients

Status effects

“We've added a range of status effects that will affect gameplay in different ways. Some sleep (and caffeine) related effects will have you keeping an eye out while burning the midnight oil, and others such as jumpy and swift will have you hoping^(sic) about the island like a pogo stick! You can always remove these buffs by sleeping or drinking Milk, but personally, we like the thrill of harvesting crops with the unlucky debuff, it’s a rollercoaster!”

Consuming certain food items will give the player a status effect, sometimes colloquially called a buff (if the effect is positive) or debuff (if the effect is negative), that augments or hinders their abilities that day. A status effect lasts all day until the player either sleeps or drinks Milk, and a small icon representing the effect is displayed on the screen while the effect is active. Multiple status effects can be active at the same time, and some foods may give more than one effect.
